Tonight was the first night of Hanakkuh, and our first time celebrating it! It went very well overall. I was never able to get my hands on a menorah so I used 9 candles achieving basically the same thing. I've been trying to focus on prayer tonight, praying for everyone and anyone who I know or who needs/wants it. This is something I should be doing regularly, so I'm hoping that by being in deep prayer for the next 7 days, that I'll develop a habit of doing this on an everyday basis. I'm thinking so much about the miracle of the oil, which then makes me think about other miracles. Everything around us seems to be a miracle of Adonai. The miracle of the earth around us, the air we breathe, the children that I've been so very blessed to raise, the husband that was dropped right into my little world, almost 5 years ago. Miracles. Miracles all around me....
I wanted to really quick share with you a recipe that comes from my dear friend Hilary in Seaside, Or. When visiting last spring while pregnant with Davin, she made me this soup and it was love at first bite! I knew it would the perfect dish for tonight. Once making it, I realized I didn't have any tarragon! So I used some coriander and bay leaf instead. Then I compeletely forgot to use some tamari at the end, doh! But alas, the soup was still fantastic. FANTASTIC. mmmm So today, you get a picture of a half eat bowl of soup. Because one little taste, turned into another, and another....until I realized oops! No picture! I'm sure you can imagine how pretty it looked before I dug into it. ;)

Potato Leek Soup
1 TBS olive oil
3 large leeks (white part plus 3 inches of green) thinly sliced, thorougly rinsed to remove all sand and drained (yields 6 cups)
1.5 LBS (6 medium) thin skinned potatoes, scrubbed or peeled
2 ribs celery, thinly sliced
4 cups water
1/4 cup finely minced fresh parsley
3 teaspoons dried tarragon
1 tsp sea salt
freshly ground pepper
additional sea salt or tamari soy sauce
garnish-1/3 cup chopped chives or thinly sliced scallion greens and sour cream
1.) heat the oil in the the pot. saute the leeks for 3 minutes, stirring frequently
2.)Add the potatoes, celery, water, parsley, tarragon and salt
3.)Bring to a boil, cover, reduce heat and simmer until the potatoes are soft (about 25 minutes)
4.) puree the soup in 2-3 batches in a blender or a food processor. Do not over process or the soup may become gummy. Add black pepper and salt or tamari to taste. return to the pot to rewarm or let cool to room temp and then chill thoroughly
5.)garnish with chopped chives or scallions

I think another thing that is amazing is that Yeshua (Jesus) celebrated the Feast of Dedication too and took full advantage of that situation in John 10:22 when he goes to the temple and is asked who he is. He tells them that Him and the Father are ONE. They pick up rocks to stone him because they understand him to be saying he is God. So, during this time of celebrating a miracle of God and light, we see the Light to the world and Savior laying it all out as to who He is.
I also think John 1:1-18 is a great passage to read concerning Messiah, Light and his purpose.
I'm so glad you had such a wonderful first night.
